Close to this location was the Werkspoor factory that used to built heavy machinery, including locomotives. Werkspoor was founded here in 1828. In 1972 they delivered their last locomotive.

The Sik was a small diesel electric locomotive specially designed for marshaling freight carriages where steam locomotives would have been prohibitively large.

The Sik was built in two series following a few prototypes: Oersik with serial numbers 103-152 and the later, larger and stronger series 201-369.

The serial number for the displayed locomotive is not known.
