Silas Hathaway was one of the original settlers of the town and was significantly involved in its early history. The Hathaway name persists in the area, not only in assorted descendants, but in Hathaway Point, which extends into Lake Champlain.
Franklin County was organized in 1795, but did not have a courthouse until 1800, during which time terms of the court were held here.
This property is privately owned, and is presently for sale.
