These magnificent gardens are divided into various areas to demonstrate organic growing in different ways. A large shop offers organic wares from stationery to preserves to washing powder. Also inside the main entrance area is the cafe and toilets (which are composting, of course!). The Vegetable Kingdom is an interactive display ideal for children and adults to learn about vegetables and is located near the entrance to the gardens.
Within the gardens are town, country and allotment gardens with flowers, shrubs and vegetable growing. The Vegetable Way garden shows different organic methods to grow vegetables and has a large glasshouse in the centre with the more exotic plants to our climate such as the banana within. Different methods to support and protect plants are shown throughout the gardens.
A rose garden grows other plants in conjunction with the roses to effectively manage pest and disease and bears a sign thanking the supporters to Ryton Organic Gardens.
The Paradise Garden is a tribute to Geoff Hamilton, the famous and well loved gardener who greatly approved of organic techniques.
A modern feel is apparent with The Elysia Biodynamic Garden with its stone spiral and large, metal frames around its perimeter.
An indoor garden demonstrates the effectiveness of growing under materials other than glass in The All Weather Garden.
Pest and Disease Control and Composting Techniques are superbly shown in two large areas, with even larger compost piles further along.
The Bee Garden reveals the plants which bees love and excellently details how important the bee is to our gardens and what we can plant to attract them.
On the edge of the gardens are the Apple and Pear Orchards and a delightful Herb Garden is centrally located.
There is much more to see and everyone is welcome. Ryton Organic Gardens were voted the 3rd Best Garden in the East Midlands recently by a Gardener's World poll.
