Although these two reliefs are not listed on the Jo Mora site, there is no doubt they are his work. He was a Carmel artist for decades until 1947. His most famous work is probably the cenotaph of Father Serra at the Carmel Mission. Here, the left bas-relief depicts a Franciscan padre, perhaps Serra himself, at a wooden gate. The right bas-relief depicts another familiar theme: that of the heroic western explorers in the native landscape. It's not clear, but it looks like the child is carrying books - the tools of civilization.
