Many are unaware that a beautiful painting by Taos artist Ernest Blumenschein resides in Walsenburg. In 1936 Blumenschein was engaged by the WPA to paint a mural in the Walsenburg post office. By this time Blumenschein had already established himself as one of the top Taos artist colony founders. The work features the Wahatoya with native Americans at its base. It is truly on of the hidden gems of Huerfano County.
