The Captain William Parker Halliday House, now known as Riverlore was built in 1865. The 11-room mansion was constructed in a Second Empire style for Captain William Parker Halliday.

"Captain William Parker Halliday was one of the most powerful figures to arise in Cairo during and immediately after the Civil War.  His career began as a clerk on a Mississippi River steamboat, but the War brought him wealth and a small commercial empire.  His holdings--both alone and together with his brothers -- included a salt mine, a coal mine, a commission and forwarding busiess; railroad, river and telegraph facilities; a coal yard for steamboats; the Egyptian Mills, Illinois' largest flour mill of the time; and extensive banking interests.  In 1880, the Halliday brothers also acquired Cairo's luxurious St. Charles Hotel, subsequently remodelled and know as the Halliday, and a major Cair landmark until it burned in 1942." - National Register Nomination Form

The house was purchased by the City of Cairo in 1999 to preserve it and open it to the public.
