Multiple tales have been told about this church cemetery, but the one I want to describe involves Colonel George Maxwell. Born in Virginia in 1751, Colonel George Maxwell served his country bravely during the Revolutionary War at the Battle of Kings Mountain. Upon his death in 1822, the soldier was put to rest in the New Providence Cemetery. Folks who approach the grave site are surprised by a black guard dog, which then disappears.

Please come only during the daytime to enjoy the cemetery, which also contains several Confederate soldier graves.

Public access?:
Church is in use, so please be respectful of when you visit. There is no gate, but do not recommend night as will be questioned by police if spotted.

Visting hours:
Recommend daylight hours only - so that you can appreciate the grave headstones
