Old Joe Hill Trig point 813m
Another typical Canberra hill, mostly bald on top with a bit of grass to keep it all together. This allows for great views of the surrounding country side.
This trig point is just over the border (fence) in NSW. It is close enough to the fence that you can touch it from the ACT side.
The views are mostly to the south and west. This covers most of the northern urban areas of Canberra. If you live North of the “Lake” you'll most likely be able to see your house from here.
The Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve is in the north east corner of the ACT. The reserve’s north eastern edge borders with NSW and several rural leases.
The ACT and NSW border follows the highest points of the terrain in this area so it passes over Old Joe hill and Gooroo Hill.
The Goorooyarroo Nature Reserves hold treasures of national significance including Yellow Box—Red Gum Grassy Woodland, an endangered ecological community. It also protects common and threatened plant and animal species and many indigenous and European cultural sites.
More information can be obtained from visiting the ACT government TAMs website.
A link to the reserve’s brochure is listed below.
