Mt Eccles has seen several eruptions between 8,000 and 20,000 years ago, and many of these eruptions produced large lava flows to Tyrendarra and beyond into what is now ocean.
The National park contains many volcanic features including lava tube caves, enormus lava canals and the crater lake, Lake Surprise.
The National Park also has a lovely secluded camp ground with hot showers and flush toilets.
Mt Eccles was site and named by Matthew Flinders on his circumnavigation of Australia
