The school is named after Florence Sabin, a medical and public health pioneer in the early 1900s. A prolific researcher on tuberculosis and immune system response, her statue is in the US Capitol building, and she was the first woman elected into the National Academy of Science. Maybe her tenacity in studying medicine is the reason for the bulldog mascot.
