Smith Mountain Lake State Park has many reminders of people who settled this area of Bedford County in the 1700's. This chimney is all that remains from a mid 1800's home. This structure was most likely linked to the Saunders Estate.
Whenever visiting a Virginia State Park, please be sure to slow down & enjoy your natural & historic surroundings. You never know what you may discover on your journey to a waypoint!
From the Buck Run, Boat Ramp or Picnic Area parking lots, find your way (using the trail system) to Walton Creek Trail. This point is easily seen in winter, yet some obstruction may occure during summer foliage.
