Lieutenant General Hunter Liggett 1857-1937
1879 - Graduated from West Point
1884 - became 1st Lieutenant serving in the Montana & Dakota Territories, Texas and Florida
1894 - 1896 - Post Adjutant at Fort McPherson & Company 5th Infantry
1897 - promoted to Captain and entered the Spanish American War
1898 - promoted to Major & adjutant general of volunteers for service in Cuba and the Philippines
1902 - promoted to major of regulars
1909 - promoted to lieutenant colonel
1910 - graduated from the Army War College & became its President
1911 - took command of the 4th Brigade 2nd Division at Texas City, Texas
1916 - returned to the Philippines in command of the Provisional Infantry Brigade and of Fort William McKinley
1916 - 1917 Commander of the Dept. of the Philippines & then named commander of the Western Department in San Francisco
1917 - took command of the 41st Division at Camp Fremont, California & was deployed to France
1918 - General Pershing put him in charge of the first American Army Corps., fought Battles at Cantigny, Bellea Woods & the second Marne campaign
1918 - General Pershing gave up control of the First Army to Liggett (1 million soldiers)
1919 - The First Army was inactivated and he took command of the Third Army for occupation duty
After returning to the U.S. he commanded the IX Corps Area Headquartered in San Francisco
1921 - retired
1930 - promoted to lieutenant general on the retired list?????????
1935 - died in San Francisco (take note he died 2 years earlier than at the beginning of this list)
