Five roundels on this imposing building contain low relief carvings[2] depicting scenes from the leather industry.
The architects were George Elkington & Sons [2,5].
Bermondsey was at one time London's "Leather Area". Many trades grew up close to the busy wharves of the Pool of London on the river Thames. The London leather , Hide & Wool Exchange is on the corner of Weston Street and Leathermarket Street. It only performed its intended function until 1912[2].
The building now houses a pub named The Leather Exchange [3]. (Until recently it was called the Jugglers Arms).
