This gorgeous gate is actually inside the Japanese Tea Garden (which has a different, more rustic, gate at its public entrance). South Gate marks a change in the garden from the lower level of nature-viewing by the ponds to a hillside level with shrine, lanterns, and tea house.
This gate is tall enough to be seen from outside the garden, but admission to the garden is well worth the price. It's open from 8:30AM to 5PM daily, free before 10AM weekdays.
Type: Gateway
 Subtype: Torii
Location: Japanese Tea Garden, Golden Gate Park
