As a child I recall water towers on military bases being checkerboarded in large orange and white blocks. They were great locators and landmarks.
More challenge to guess where I stood when I took image.
Hint, sun to your back.
One can see Mt. Diablo from the ground near the runway on a clear day.
To the East one can see the Sierras. Muggy in summer.
