'Landon Carter' played by Shane West who is forced to participate in the school drama production as part of his community service project. He then falls in love with 'Jamie Sullivan' played by Mandy Moore. Jamie happens to be the daughter of the town's minister, 'Reverend Sullivan' played by Peter Coyote. During a ride home Jamie tells Landon about her list of things she wants to do before she dies. Landon later learns of her serious illness and helps her with her list.
