This lakeside viewing pavilion was dedicated April 13, 1981, a gift from the people of Taipei, San Francisco' sister city.
It is possible that there are pavilions in Imperial China which are larger, more ornate, and more important, but it is hard to believe that there are any so lovely and perfectly proportioned in size, decoration, and location.
Considering how popular Golden Gate Park is, this location is quite peaceful as relatively few people take the walk around the lake to reach it.
