It is tucked away behind the Norfolk County Superior Court and among residential homes. But the Dedham Public Library building is distinctly different from the buildings around it.

The Dedham Library Association was founded in 1854. The present building was built around 1888, on land that was purchased for the library. The architects were Van Brunt and Howe, who designed the main library with a Romanesque/Southern France style. The stone building materials is Dedham pink granite with red sandstone trim. In 1916, a wing was added for the childrens' room, and in 1952 a wing was added and the entrance to Church Street was made. There is also a branch library in town on Endicott Street.

The building has several interesting features. The windows along Church Street have a dated stone by them, which is likely the children's wing. On the Norfolk Street side, there is a turret. The roof is red tile.

The library is part of the Minuteman Library Network, which has the entire catalog of not only the Dedham Library, but the many other libraries on the network. Access to the Internet can be made through the network.

There is also a door-to-door service.
