With plays being produced year-round, a theater fan could go to South Coast Repertory and easily find a play to fit their taste. It began in 1964, when two theater students from San Francisco State University, David Emmes and Martin Benson, decided they wanted a place to call home. They chose Orange County, which had no live theater at the time. The two men staged productions in cities like Newport Beach and Long Beach before finally setting up shop in Costa Mesa.
Going strong for five decades now, SCR has expanded their reach with educational offerings and programs for young audiences.
