Originally for Protestant dependent girls.
Hannah Greenebaum Solomon, a friend of Jane Addams, founded and served as the first president of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW). In 1905, Solomon declined to be renominated as president of the NCJW, claiming that she was suffering from poor health. However, in that same year she began working with the Illinois Industrial School for Girls, later renamed the Park Ridge School for Girls, which became one of Solomon’s most cherished projects.
