Great old 1930's underpass built for the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1936.

This is a huge automobile undercrossing that has a set of double tracks crossing over the top at an angle.
On each side of the undercrossing a vintage Southern Pacific Emblem graces the header above the roadway. Pedestrian tunnels on each side of the roadway seem ominous to pass through even in the daytime. Wrought iron barriers keep roadway and pedestrians separated and protect against falls from the elevated pathway on either side of the road.Art Deco detailing in the concrete work round out the interest that this bridge provides to the passerby if they will but notice.
Union Pacific trains now pass this former wonder from the age of steam. This particular bridge was built in 1936 by the firm of Kern & Kibbe in conjunction with the United States Bureau of Public Roads and the Oregon State Highway Commission according to a plaque near the south pedestrian entrance.
