The Fort Myers Pleasure Pier Complex was erected in 1927 just west of the Caloosahatchee River Bridge at the end of Carson Street. The pier pilings were deemed unsafe in 1943 and the pier was demolished. The upstairs pavillion was salvaged and barged upriver in two sections and placed on Edwards Drive. (
visit link) During World War II the salvaged portion of the structure served as a USO Center for soldiers stationed at the Buckingham Gunnery School and Page Airfield. In 1965 the Chamber of Commerce converted the facility into the Tourist Center, at which time it became known by its’ current moniker, the Hall of 50 States. Sadly this building is boarded up awaiting news of its' fate. (
