St. Michael’s Junior Seminary and Novitiate opened in September 1961. It was founded by seven expatriates from Hungary. Fifteen years later, St. Michael’s was recognized as an independent priory. Finally, in 1984, the small community received abbatial status, with Father Ladislas K. Parker named as first Abbot. From a small group of seven at the beginning, the abbey has grown to number approximately seventy members.
