John Davis was most likely originally buried at the Old Burial Grounds in Meadville. His current resting place, Greendale Cemetery was not established until 1866 which was well after his death. There is at least one more Revolutionary War veteran who was moved from the Old Burial Grounds to Greendale.
The stone standing to mark John Davis grave was placed by his Eliza Horner Gordon in 1917. Behind this stone lying flat on the ground is the ogininal marker for John Davis' burial.
During the Revolutionary War, John Davis served as George Washington's deputy Quartermaster. After the war, John Davis married his wife Mary. They went on to have eight children.
