Around 1860, gold was discovered in the area. There were lots of mines and little camps set up in the canyons. By the time the railroads came to the area, many of the mines had dried up so the miners moved closer to the railroads. That was the start of Acton. It is said that one of the miners was from Acton, Massachusetts and he is the one who chose the name. For more info on the town and surrounding area, click here.
