The USS New Jersey was built at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and launched December 7, 1942, one year after the Pearl Harbor Attack. It is one of four battleships of the Iowa class, the largest, fastest, most powerful battleships the US ever built. The New Jersey is among the biggest battleships ever. It was the second ship to be named in honor of a state and was the second ship to be name "New Jersey".
The New Jersey is the most decorated battleship in Naval History. It has 19 battle stars.
The New Jersey was decommissioned for the last time on February 8,1991 at Bremerton, Washington. It was opened as a Museum and Memorial in Camden, NJ, across from its birth place, in October 2001.
