"The Spirit of the American Doughboy" in Morehead, Kentucky is one of several across the United States by sculptor E.M. Viquesney. This one was originally on a higher base. It actually was added to the base 10 years after it was erected.

The plaque below the statue reads:
TO THE BOYS OF ROWAN COUNTY WHO GAVE
THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR
COUNTRY DURING THE WORLD WAR, THIS
MONUMENT IS HONORABLY DEDICATED.

According to research the bayonet has been replaced several times.
On the side of the statue is a plaque honoring those from World War II, Korea and Vietnam. The statue was erected in the 1920's so it was obviously erected (as the plaque at the front reads) for World War I. The other plaque was added much later and also goes with a larger monument wall behind the doughboy that looks similar to the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. and features soldiers names on those walls.
The plaque on the side of the doughboy monument reads:
The American Legion Post 126 and the Community
dedicates this plaque as a memorial to those who gave their lives during World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars. It then lists names of soldiers from those wars.
