From its humble beginnings in the 1960s, Mission Viejo has become one of the most famous of all Orange County cities. Its "Nadadores" swimming team, for example, has produced several Olympic athletes, including Shirley Babashoff, Greg Louganis, and Dara Torres. Other notable features of the city include the large Mission Hospital, which serves the community as a trauma center and children's facility.
