Around 1970, Jimmy Buffett headed to Miami for an alleged booking date. However when he arrived, there was no job for him so he stayed at a friend's house for awhile. A weekend drive down A1A towards Key West proved to be a critical point to his life. He decided to stay there, and his musical career took off.
This was Jimmy's first apartment in Key West. It is located next to Louie's Backyard bar, which is indirectly mentioned in his song "Tryin to Reason with the Hurricane Season." The lyrics are:
Squalls out on the gulf stream / Big storm's comin' soon / I passed out in my hammock / And God I slept 'til way past noon / Stood up and tried to focus / I hoped I wouldn't have to look far / I knew I could use a Bloody Mary / So I stumbled next door to the bar
There is no signage or other indication that this was his house. It was pointed out on the former Trails of Margaritaville tour and also the virtual geocache.
