In addition to the bronze statue, a flagpole was also dedicated and cast with granite plaques on four sides. One side of the flagpole is engraved with the words of the Firefighters’ Poem in memory of the 343 members of FDNY.
The other three side pay tribute to local firefighters.

A plaque with the Firefighter's Prayer is on the base of the statute:
"When I am called to duty, God, wherever flames may rage, give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late, or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout, and quickly and efficiently put that fire out. I want to fulfill my calling and to give the best in me, to guard my every neighbor and protect their property. And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life, please bless with your protecting hand, my family from all strife."
