Rolling Stone Covered Bridge is a single span Burr Arch structure crossing Big Walnut Creek in Putnam County, Indiana. Its span is 103 feet not counting the overhang of approximately 10' on each end. It sits on new concrete abutments. The roadbed is 16' wide with 13' clearance. The bridge was built in 1915 by Joseph Britton. It remains open to traffic.
According to countyhistory.com, Rolling Stone Covered Bridge derived its name from a large boulder near the structure that would actually roll around by the action of the water. It was considered a hazard to the bridge and had to be broken up with dynamite. Rolling Stone Covered Bridge is listed in the World Guide as #14-67-04.
Current Condition of Bridge: Bridgehunter.com describes the deck and superstructure as "fair" and the substructure as "satisfactory."
