Ontario International Airport is located approximately 50 miles east of Los Angeles in the City of Ontario. It is one of five major airports serving the greater Los Angeles region. The other major airports are Los Angeles International Airport, Long Beach Airport, John Wayne Airport and Bob Hope Airport.
Years ago I flew out of here often from the old terminal, a relict of the 1950s. You'd walk across the tarmac and up the air stairs into the plane, just like the old days. You can still do that at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank. Baggage claim was in an outside covered area. The old terminal is still there, a brick building now used as the airport offices.
The new terminal is clean, big, and modern, in keeping with the rapid growth of the area. However, the food and drink services are sparse and close too early.
Ontario International Airport started as Ontario Municipal Airport in 1929. During World War II, the airport was used as an Army Air Corps P-38 training base and P-59 operating base. A history of Ontario International can be found hereand here.
