Long Description:
As described on the Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation's website
"The Nest is our hostel-style accommodation, set in the same idyllic boreal forest surroundings as the BCBC. Whether you’re a researcher looking for a place to rest after a long day in the field, or just somebody looking for some peace and quiet, The Nest has something for you!
Though this beautiful facility is primarily intended to be used by visiting researchers, other visitors can also book short-term stays (availability permitting). In other words, you could find yourself sharing this cozy lodging with experts from a wide range of disciplines! Researchers, on the other hand, benefit from having onsite accommodations – minimizing travel time and other inconveniences, and maximizing study opportunities. Researchers can also arrange access to office and research space in the BCBC. The Nest is also ideal for corporate retreats and strategic brainstorming sessions, again on a first-come, first-served basis.
Every visitor appreciates the chance to:
- Explore scenic lakeshore trails and self-guided hikes
- Witness an abundance of wildlife, often right on your doorstep
- Stroll secluded beaches
- Delight in long summer evenings and spectacular sunsets
- Book a banding lab tour at the nearby Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory
- Take in the exhibits and interpretive programs at the BCBC, or
- Just kick back and relax!
- And, of course … there’s plenty of bird watching!
The Nest has room for 10 guests with four bunk-bed rooms and two queen-bed rooms. There are also shared washrooms and a large common room with full kitchen facilities and fireplace. Outside is a large deck with barbeque, firepit and picnic table.
Please remember to bring your own:
- Bedding or Sleeping Bag and Pillow
- Towels
- Food
- Relax, rejuvenate and enjoy! This is one of northern Alberta’s unique accommodation options!"
