"This 37 foot high pole is distinctive of the Northwest Coast Native art style. The Totem Pole was raised in 1983 with the help of many museum visitors in honour of Universiade, the World University Games. Carving of the huge red cedar log began at the Indian Art and Craft Centre in Ksan, and was completed in Borden Park and Churchill Square in Edmonton.

At the bottom of the pole is the Strong Man, who holds all the world's peoples united on his shoulders; above him sits the beaver, the raven, with the frog on his beak (from the Ksan legend of creation), the bear clasping a salmon, and on top, an owl, the symbol of Universiade and of Alberta."
