The Holden Arboretum is home to almost 15,000 trees. The aboretum holds large collections of conifers, magnolias, crabapples, nut trees, hedge specimen trees, lilacs, and viburnums. The hiking/walking trails vary from paved to stone to dirt to mowed field. Numerous benches are located in the most popular area for visitors to rest. A bird blind is located on Corning Lake for wildlife viewing.

Each cataloged specimen is identified with a silver tag that identifies the item by name and the year in which it was added to the collection. It makes for great exploring and provides a wonderful way to see the different rates at which trees grow.

Holden is open daily from 9am-5pm. It is closed three days per year, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. An daily admission fee is charged for entry to all except members. In addition to free admission, members' are permitted access to two additional locked, remote, parking areas for visiting. The arboretum offers a number of educational classes and family events. It also has the areas most challenging cross country skiing. The longest ski loop takes one on a quiet journey through the conifer collection and by the sugar shack and sugar maple grove for maple syrup production.
