East Hill Cemetery was founded in 1856 final resting place for many of the areas most prominent and historic citizens. The cemetery is the final resting place of a number of Civil War Veterans and Revoluntionary War hero General Evan Shelby. William "Billy" Wood, that last surviving V.M.I. Cadet who fought at the Battle of New Marker is also buried here. East Hill is a rather large cemetery, containing approximately 3,000 graves and is located on the state line of Virginia and Tennessee, in fact some graves are actually located in Virginia, while other are located in Tennessee.
