This was one of a series of granite crosses that marked the "Abbots Way", a path from Buckfast to Tavistock monasteries.
Crazywell Pool is also worth a visit it is situated about 100 yards west of the cross but can’t be seen from the cross. Beware the pool is said to be bottomless and very cold. The army uses it for training and sadly a few years ago a young soldier died while training here.
