The cemetery was opened in 1855 and is built in the Gothic Revival style of the Victorian period. It was built by the Bedford architect Thomas Jobson Jackson. Incorporating both an archway and cemetery offices the entrance is quite a sight as you drive into the area. It is now known as the Foster Hill Road Cemetery as there is a new one in Norse Road. Unfortunately the cemetery has been subject to a lot of vandalism recently.
