The National Sundial Registry at (
visit link) tells us, in part:
The original horizontal dial and gnomon of 1909 was cast aluminum. The new face is weathered brass and copper. The sundial has been replaced on campus after a 30 year absence and recent rediscovery. The granite face of the sundial plinth under the metal base has directional lines indicating major cities in Michigan, Ohio, and around the United States.
The original pedestal has the weathered inscription "Presented by Class of 1908" on the north face and a newly engraved "1849-1999/150 years" symbol noting the sesquicentennial year of Eatern Michigan University on the south face.
