The Nodaway Courthouse is significant as one of Missouri's finest High
Victorian Italianate-Eclectic Style courthouses, as the design of the prominent
western Missouri Architectural firm of Eckel & Mann, and as the seat of local
government for Nodaway County since 1882.
The building is the third to serve as Nodaway County's county seat. The first
was built in 1846 of logs while the second erected in 1855 was of brick
construction. This courthouse served until 1881 when construction on the present
brick building began. Work was completed in 1882, the contractor being R.K.
Allen of St. Joseph, Missouri. Allen also constructed the Union Railroad Station
'in St. Joseph. -from National Register nomination form
