Originally the Stretford House stood on this site dating back to the 18th century some parts of the outbuildings still remain. The house was replaced in 1860 for the first Lord Overstone - S. Jones Lloyd. The architect was William Milford Teulon and he included Italian Trecento motifs and Jacobean influences.
Lady Wantage once owned the estate before it passed on to the Philip Stott College for political students and economics and then to a public girl's school.
Overstone Park had a dining hall added by Sir Guy Dawber in 1935. The present building dates to this period. Now it is home to a modern public house serving a popular carvery menu.
