The Salmon Falls was the location of a treaty between the Penobscot and the Mowhawk tribes. This treaty was recognized by the Colonial Court in 1744, preserving in perpetual peace the area within one days journey of this site, for hunting and fishing.
Nowadays it is a historic site along the Mohawk Trail.
