The Bronze statue was unveiled by Councilor Terry Waiting and Steven Broomhead,a 12 foot high statue representing Shipyard workers of different time periods.

The Statue is situated at the central crossroad of The Main shopping centre of Barrow in Furness.
The statue which stands on a solid stainless steel base is of 4 shipyard workers representing different time periods of the industry,the first figure is of a riveter from the 1920's the second is a Fitter from WWII the third is of a Welder from the 60's and the fourth a modern electrician.
Around the stainless steel base are the words "Courage" "Labour" "Skill" and "Progress".
The sculpture is not pretending to be art for art's sake but is a stunning piece of work appreciated by the people of Barrow in Furness which is representing a statue of the town's chief industry Shipbuilding,to which the current torchbearers are BEA systems.
