The town now known as Mount Angel was settled in the 1840s and was first known as ‘Roy’. In 1882 a narrow gauge railroad was constructed through town and the original station was named ‘Fillmore’. At a later date, the original depot was replaced by the existing structure as constructed by the Southern Pacific Railroad.
The clock in the station tower has an interesting history. It was originally installed in the Marion County Courthouse until the building was destroyed in 1873. It was then installed in the Salem City Hall, until that structure was demolished in 1972. It is still a useful clock today in Mount Angel.
