The main use of Butts Park Arena is as a rugby union stadium, the home ground for Coventry R.F.C., who moved there for the start of the 2004/05 season having used the Coundon Road Stadium previously. The inaugural league match was against Nottingham on 4 September 2004, which Coventry won by 40 points to 10. It is also the home ground for the Coventry Jets American Football team. The stadium has also hosted the 39th International Children's Games in 2005.
Butts Park Arena was opened in September 2004, the official opening being performed by Sir Clive Woodward, the former England World Cup winning manager
The stadium was built in 2004 and currently has one stand. The East Stand has a capacity of 3000 and includes a number of conference and banqueting facilities. The West Stand which was a temporary structure holding 1000 was removed at the end of the 2005/06 season on grounds of Health and Safety. The total capacity of the Butts Park Arena is 4000.
Coventry R.F.C. play in National Division One which is the second tier of professional rugby union in England. Their history stretches back over 130 years. They moved from Condon Road, the home for 83 years, when the Butts Park Arena opened in 2004.
Directions: The Arena is situated just off Junction 7 of the Coventry City Centre Ring Road. Leave the Ring Road at Junction 7 following the B4010 sign posted A45 and Birmingham. The Arena is on the left hand side just past the Coventry Technical College.
