Gen. Tadeusz Kosciuszko came to America in 1776 and volunteered in the Continental Army. It was not long before Congress gave him the commission of "Colonel of Engineers" in the Continental Army. He went on to fortify the likes of Philadelphia, Fort Ticonderoga, Saratoga and eventually West Point.
