The 32-pounder cannon was recovered at the Civil War fort after the 1927 flood. The cannon was known as #209 and was one of 56 cannons located at this Confederate fort and guarded the passage of the Mississippi River.
The cannon was orginally property of the United State Navy and after Virginia left the Union, the cannon was confisicated by the Confederate government.
