When Salem was founded the waterfront area was the site of much the local industry. This warehouse was just across the street from the docks and a railroad line, which gave it a perfect location. Now it is empty and boarded up, and luxury condos are going up next door. Ironically, while Salem is trying to get this building historical status, excavation next door caused damage to the foundation of this building.
As of Fall 2008 this is adjacent to a construction zone, so exercise caution, and only approach from the south.
