Apples have been an important crop in the Watsonville area for more than a century. This mural is a fairly accurate depiction - not an exact copy - of an apple crate label designed for a local family's successful apple business. The Franich family no longer farm 72 acres of apples; their name lives on in a huge new park on the outskirts of town.
