The USS Midway (CV-41) is now a floating museum in San Diego, California. The ship was ordered on August 7, 1942. Construction began on October 27, 1943, and the launch took place on March 20, 1945. The original commanding officer was Joseph F. Bolger.
One of three 45,000-ton "Midway" class carriers, the Midway's sister ships include the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB-42) and the USS Coral Sea (CVB-43). The Midway operated in all major oceans, and was part of the Vietnam and Desert Storm conflicts, to name two. One estimate puts the number of sailors that served aboard the Midway at over 200,000.
The Midway is open daily, from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The ship is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
As of November 2008, admission prices are:

* $13 seniors and students with a valid ID
* $10 retired military with a valid ID
* $9 youth (ages 6-17)
* Active-duty miltary, reservists, and children 5 and under are free.
